Attorney Joe Norwood and Norwood.Law appear often in the news.
Below is a year-end roundup of select stories and headlines featuring Joe, his clients, and Norwood.Law.
One of our highest-publicized clients, Glynn Simmons, holds the record in America for the longest prison sentence ever served due to a wrongful conviction. He served 48 years in Oklahoma’s prison system.
After we freed Simmons, Norwood.Law then sued on his behalf. That lawsuit settled last year with officials in Edmond, Oklahoma, for $7 million. Another similar suit for two wrongfully convicted men in Tulsa settled this year for $15 million.

Witness
Norwood.Law client Glynn Simmons spent nearly half a century in Oklahoma’s grueling prison system for a murder he didn’t commit. There’d never been any physical evidence, and the lone witness was highly questionable.
But with our help, Simmons was finally let go in 2023 when an Oklahoma City judge declared him innocent of a 1974 murder. After decades of Simmons trying to free himself, the case had found its way to attorney Joe Norwood in Tulsa.
Simmons isn’t the only one. Joe Norwood has freed others in cases that seemed hopeless.
There have been major recent developments in other Norwood.Law cases where Joe’s clients spent decades in prison over wrongful convictions.
For two of those clients, Malcolm Scott and Demarchoe Carpenter, city officials in Tulsa agreed to a settlement this year of $15 million. The civil suit took an extraordinary eight years to reach a conclusion.
Norwood.Law had initially freed Malcolm and Demarchoe after they spent 22 years in prison for a Tulsa murder they didn’t do.
